I am a Person-centred counsellor. As you are that Person, this means that therapy is about you; what you know, where you have been, what inner resources you have acquired along the way and most importantly how all of this comes together in the here and now.
I believe that a gentle, accepting approach can open up a space of trust for you to explore what you are experiencing more fully. While this may sound daunting, I have found that we have little to fear but fear itself and that you have everything inside you to lead a joyful and fulfilling life.
I believe your deep intuitions will guide us there and that I can support you by accompanying you without fear of what we may encounter, holding any confusion that arises long enough for you to make sense of it for yourself, confident that the more we can come to understand together the better you will know which steps to take and the more hope you will share that they are leading where you want to go. I believe this is at the heart of a person-centred way of working.
I hope to help create a genuine empathic relationship with you which will give you the opportunity to change the way you see yourself, your life story and your future in a way that feels safe and lasting. I believe that the body can often be a helpful source of understanding and awareness and my practice includes mindfulness practices when appropriate and desired.
I am Registered with the BACP. I have worked within an NHS service and as a counsellor in private practice with a wide variety of clients. I currently work at the Recovery Lighthouse addiction rehabilitation centre as a psychotherapist assisting addicts in their recovery process. I also operate a private practice in London from the Awareness Centre in Tooting. I take part in regular CPD training and have recently completed a workshop in counselling at relational depth.
I offer a free 30 min introductory session for us to meet each other and give you the opportunity to decide if you feel like I am the counsellor you would most like to work with. If you would like to continue sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. My fees operate on a sliding scale between 20 and 50 pounds. I offer concessions to counselling students and those on low incomes. This can be negotiated either prior to our initial meeting or during the introductory session.
I look forward to meeting you.
