Brennan Holt

Hi, I’m Brennan and I’m glad you’ve found my page.

I hope that means we’ll get to speak more about what you need and what you’re struggling with. That can be hard to do and therapy can help make things clearer and ways forward feel more accessible. There isn’t a wrong way to do therapy but it still might feel terrifying to start. You won’t need to know where to begin. We can work that out together in a way that feels right for you.

People come to therapy for many reasons but one way I have come to look at it is this: when the world around us reacts negatively to us we often internalise it and come to see ourselves as the problem. This can create a lot of pressure to be someone else, to change how we behave or feel. People can often end up frustrated with their inability to change.

Our sessions together can be different. Change can come without the pressure.

In my experience change starts to happen once you feel safe. It is important to me that you can share yourself freely at the pace you want to without fear of judgement, rejection or other defensive reactions you may have experienced. I think everyone deserves to feel safer and I am committed to offering a less threatening space where you can exist more freely. This extends particularly to people who face sexism, racism or transphobia and those who feel excluded from normative spaces that can’t accommodate your ways of moving, thinking or feeling.

I work a lot towards making therapy a less oppressive profession so I really do welcome these conversations as part of our working together.

Our Sessions

I offer a free introductory session face to face, online or via telephone for us to meet each other and give you the opportunity to decide if you feel like I am the counsellor you would most like to work with. If you would like to continue sessions would last 50 min and be at the same agreed time each week. I charge £60 for ongoing sessions (90 for couples).

I offer concessions to clients referred to me through various organisations. Please do enquire if you feel you need assistance. In case of face to face introductory sessions I do ask a 10 pound fee to cover the cost of room hire.

I look forward to meeting you.

About Me

I am a BACP accredited therapist and course leader on a Person-Centred Counselling course. My work is trauma-informed and specialises in anti-oppressive practice. I am LGBTQIA+ allied, support racial justice and hold an anti-ableist view of neuro-divergence. I am climate collapse aware and committed to climate justice.

I have extensive experience working with those suffering with disordered eating and addiction related issues.

I work face to face in Hove but I continue to find online counselling equally rewarding.

I practice from New Road Psychotherapy at 73 Church road in Hove as well as 198 Church Rd. in Hove which is a newly renovated and wheelchair accessible building.

Both are serviced by the 1, 1a, 6 and 49 bus routes (alight between Sackville Road and George Street for 198). We are about 5mins drive from Hove railway station. Pay and display parking is directly outside the practice and in several nearby streets as well as across the road at Tesco.
